It is said that Takatsugū, founded in 866 CE on Ishiyama in the northern part of the Kamimachi Plateau, was transferred to Higashi-Takatsu in 1124 CE. After the Meiji Restoration, it was renamed Higashi-Takatsugū, and in 1932 CE, it was relocated to its current site due to expansion works at Uehommachi Station.
