History
Founded in 774 by Kaigen, the temple enshrined Miroku Bosatsu (Bodhisattva Maitreya) to save the masses suffering from plague. In 807, when Kobo Daishi (Kukai) visited, he carved and enshrined five Buddhist statues, including Fudo Myoo (Acala). In 1246, a bronze bell was donated by Hojo Shigetoki.
