In 1882, Chaya Sonpuku brought a divided spirit (bunrei) from Izumo and performed the enshrinement ceremony, establishing the Izumo Taisha Tokyo Bunshi. The shrine relocated to its current site in Zaibotcho, Azabu Ward, in 1889. Although the shrine buildings were destroyed in the Great Tokyo Air Raid of 1945, the divided spirit and ritual documents survived unharmed.
