History
The temple is said to have originated when Shingonbo Hosshin, a devotee of Shinran, established a nembutsu (mindfulness of Buddha) practice ground in Shimotsuke Province. Following Shinran's final instructions, the prototype of the current temple was built in 1290 CE (Kōan 3) in Kibukidera Village, Kawachi Province. In 1606 CE (Keichō 11), it was relocated to the central area of present-day Yawata City to counter the Anai clan and served as a subsidiary temple to Daishinji.
