History
It is said to have begun when the monk Gyoki carved an Eleven-Faced Kannon statue from white birch wood and enshrined it. During the Heian period, the Lord of Eguchi relocated the temple to its current site and revived it. Although it was completely destroyed by fire during the wars of the Muromachi period, it was rebuilt in 1616 CE (Genna 2) by Soigon. The Nozaki pilgrimage began in 1682 CE (Tenno 2).
