Jikkoin
京都市左京区大原勝林院町187
Jikkoin is a Tendai sect temple and a sub-temple (tato) of Daizenji Shourin-in. It enshrines Jizō Bosatsu (the Bodhisattva of Compassion) as its principal image. The temple is renowned for its beautiful gardens, including the Fudan-zakura (Sakura that blooms without pause) which flowers from autumn through spring, and the 'Keishin-en' garden, a classic strolling garden featuring a pond and waterfalls.
History
Established as a sub-temple of Daizenji Shourin-in alongside Houkuen-in, the site originally housed the mausoleums of Emperor Go-Toba and Emperor Juntoku. After these mausoleums fell into disrepair, the temple was restored by the monk Shounin Ho-in during the Eicho era. In 1919, by order of the Imperial Household Ministry, the temple was relocated to the grounds of the neighboring Rikaku-in and Fugen-in temples.
