History
Founded in 1229 CE (Kanki 1) by the High Priest Seiki. In 1474 CE (Bunmei 6), the temple was relocated to its current site, formerly the grounds of the sub-temple Seikongo-in, to escape the Onin War. In the early Edo period, Yoshitaka, the son of Ashikaga Yoshiaki, entered the temple, and it was rebuilt with the support of Tokugawa Iemitsu.
