History
1641年に松前の専念寺6世浄玄が木古内村に阿弥陀堂を創建し、1710年に函館に移転した。1858年に本願寺の掛所となり、1876年に本願寺別院となった。1915年には木田保造により、和風建築の細部を鉄筋コンクリート造で表現した耐火寺院建築として再建された。
