京都市左京区北門前町482
A Jodo-shu (Pure Land) temple located in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. The principal image is Amida Nyorai (Amitabha Buddha). It is also the 25th site of the Rokuyo 48 Sacred Places pilgrimage.
History
In the late Heian period, Daimyo Omiimon Tsunemune, who served as the Left Minister of the Left, took monastic vows under the guidance of Honen Shonin. Upon his death, his residence was converted into a temple. The temple later relocated to its current site following Toyotomi Hideyoshi's urban planning initiatives and the Ho'e Great Fire. It serves as the ancestral temple for the Omiimon, Ayagashi, and Itsutsuji branches of the Fujiwara clan.
