Founded in Tenbun 11 (1542 CE) as a thatched hut by Ryogetsu Ansei, with Kaga Shuko serving as the founding priest. In Kanei 4 (1627 CE), Kushi Moto Saemon became the patron, and the temple was renamed Jorin-ji after his ancestor, Saemonryo Jorin. During reconstruction by Odake Toshono Naotoshi in Genroku 7 (1694 CE), the mountain name and temple name were changed from Zuishan Kichijo-in to Shokozan Ojoin.
