In 1594 CE (Bunroku 3), it was relocated to its current site due to the reconstruction of Kyoto and was converted to the Jodo-shu sect. In the Meiji era, a Jizo Bodhisattva statue that had been located by the Fukinike Pond was moved here, and the temple came to be known as Kurumaguchi Jizo.
