Jurinji Temple
伊那市高遠町東高遠2330
A temple of the Chizan school of Shingon Buddhism located in Iida City, Nagano Prefecture, which has been long revered as the prayer temple of the Takato Domain.
History
After the Battle of Sekigahara, Hosokawa Masamitsu commissioned a replica of the 'Yugao Kannon' (Evening Gourd Kannon) from Jurinji Temple in Kozuke Province, which he deeply revered, to serve as the principal image. The temple was established at the position corresponding to the ghost gate of Takato Castle. Since its founding, it has been long revered as the prayer temple of the Takato Domain by the Hosokawa, Torii, and Naito clans. During the Naito period, it became a sub-temple of Chikurinji.
