History

In 901 CE (Engi era), Hachiman Shrine was enshrined as the tutelary deity (ujigami) of the village of Kanayama Nakaguni. In 1411 CE (Eiyo 18), Minamoto Takagen enshrined Kamakura Ebara Tenjin to pray for victory in battle. Later, a branch spirit (bunrei) of this deity was merged into the shrine, and it was renamed Kabara Hachiman-gu. In the early Meiji period, it was renamed to its current name, Kabara Hachiman Shrine.
