Built on the site of the former second enclosure of Shimura Castle, it is also said that Minamoto no Yoritomo made prayers for long-lasting military fortune here. Later designated as the guardian deity of Shimura Castle, it is now enshrined as the chief guardian deity (Sōchinkami) of the Shimura district.
