History
As a branch temple of Eiheiji in the Soto school, it was founded in 1600 CE (Keicho 5) by the monk Seiton and established by Koide Hide-masa. When Okabe Nobukatsu was transferred from Takatsuki to Kishiwada, he moved the memorial stele of his birth mother from Chu-o-ji in Tochigi to this location. The temple was named at the time this memorial stele was erected. As a temple with ties to the Tokugawa clan, the eaves tiles are carved with the three-leaf mallow crest.
