In 1185, Minamoto no Yoritomo donated a large ginkgo sacred tree to commemorate the fulfillment of his prayers. In 1719, the shrine became the head shrine of the Miura Peninsula. In 2011, the main hall, coin hall, and worship hall were designated as Important Cultural Properties by Kanagawa Prefecture.
