History
Founded during the Keicho era (1596-1615) as a family temple by Uemura Yasutada, a retainer of Tokugawa Ieyasu who became the lord of Katsuura. In the time of the third generation, Yasuasa, the temple was moved to its current location and renamed from Jorin-ji to Kakuo-ji, after the childhood name of the founder's father. The temple declined following the abolition of the domain in 1751 but was revived by Kaiyo Dai-nin, who took office in 1907.
