The shrine was founded in 1688 when Kamakura Village was separated from Nagasuma Village, by inviting a branch spirit from Fushimi Inari Taisha. It was designated as a village shrine in the early Meiji period. However, due to the shrine merger (goshu) in 1910, it was merged into Togasaki Tokiwa Shrine, and a remote worship site (youhaisho) was established in 1914. The shrine was re-established in 1971 and was named 'Kamakura Inari Shrine' upon its certification as a religious corporation in 1978.
