History

This shrine was established by the Tsubo clan and the Suye branch clan, descendants of the development lords of Tsubo-shō, who invited a branch spirit from Chikuzen-jingū. According to the roof plaque, it was invited in 1537 CE (Bunmei 6) by Suye Matsujiro and Tsubo Takekata. It is said that a Hachiman Shrine, originally invited during the Kamakura period, once stood on this site but was destroyed after battles during the Nanboku-chō (Northern and Southern Courts) period.
