The shrine's origins are said to trace back to a Buddhist hall established by Fujiwara no Kamatatsu to pray for the prosperity of the Fujiwara clan. Following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism, it was reorganized into Yasui Shrine. It was promoted to a Goshu (local shrine) in the Meiji era and took its current name, Yasui Kanbeiro-gu, after World War II.
