The shrine was destroyed in the burning of Nanto in the fourth year of Jisho (1180 CE) but was rebuilt in the fourth year of Bunji (1188 CE). During the Keicho period (1596–1615 CE), repairs to the shrine buildings were funded by donations from Tokugawa Ieyasu. In the Meiji era, it was classified as a Kensha (prefectural shrine).
