Kannonji Temple
大和市下鶴間2240
A temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect located in Yamato City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Its formal name is Tsumagayama Tozo-in Kannonji. It is known as the first station of the Busai Kannon pilgrimage and as part of the Sagami New Saigoku Thirty-Three Kannon pilgrimage.
History
Originally called Kinukibo, it was a branch of Tokuenji. The re-founder was Rai-man. During the Borei era, the temple's name was changed to Kannonji. When the Eleven-Faced Kannon was enshrined in the Kannon Hall, which survived a great fire unscathed, this deity became the current main object of worship, and the temple took its current name.
