It once flourished as the head shrine for the Kasuga shrines in the 75 districts of Nariai, Anma, and Kosobe, but declined after the Eishō era, becoming solely the tutelary deity of Nariai. During the Genki era, it was destroyed by fire caused by Takayama Ukon, but was rebuilt by monks from Kinryūji Temple and the local parishioners.
