Although the shrine was destroyed by fire during the late Sengoku period due to attacks by the Shimazu forces, it was rebuilt by Kuroda Kazumasa, a senior retainer of Kuroda Nagamasa. Subsequent renovations in Genroku 9 (1696) and a comprehensive restoration in Heisei 8 (1996) have led to its current form.
