History

The founding date is unknown, but the shrine was relocated to its current site in 1553 (Tenbun 22) after passing through Katsuta Village since the medieval period. As the guardian shrine of the Kimon of Yonago Castle, its buildings were constructed under the patronage of Kato Sadamasa and Ikeda Mitsumasa. It was renamed Katsuta Shrine in the early Meiji period. After being destroyed by lightning in 1835 (Tempo 6), the current main hall was rebuilt in 1914 (Taisho 3).

What visitors say

The spacious grounds are surrounded by trees, allowing for worship in a quiet and serene atmosphere. The main hall and worship hall are impressive, and pet omamori (protective charms) and a wide variety of Goshuin (calligraphic seal stamps) books are available. Parking is located in front of the torii gate, but using nearby parking lots is convenient during busy times such as Hatsumode (New Year shrine visits).
