In 683 CE (Tenmu 12), a descendant of Iwakashitsurukanonokami, who ruled the local area, was granted the surname Takahashi and enshrined Iwakashitsurukanonokami, naming the shrine Takahi Shrine. In 1029 CE (Chogen 2), the shrine was granted the imperial plaque 'Nihon Issha Kinri-gu' (First Shrine of Japan, Prohibiting Carp) following a miraculous event in which a carp emerged from a well within the shrine grounds.
