Kobayashi-yama Komyoji
常滑市大野町10丁目65
A temple of the Higashi Honganji school of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism, with the mountain name Kobayashi-yama. It houses cultural properties such as a standing statue of Amida Nyorai from the Kamakura period and the Honen Shonin Eiden (biographical scrolls of Honen) from the Nanbokucho period.
History
Originally a Tendai sect temple located in Kobayashi village, it was established by imperial decree from Emperor Daigo. In the second year of Bunryaku (1183 CE), it converted to Jodo Shinshu through the teachings of Shinran Shonin. It relocated to its current site in the first year of Entoku (1390 CE). During the O Higashi Sodo (East Sect Disturbance), it transferred to the Higashi Honganji school. Due to its connections with the nobility, it became a major hub for Shinshu Buddhism in the Chita Peninsula.
