History
In 1646 CE (Shōhō 3), Makino Naomasa became the great patron (danna), and the temple was rebuilt as a Soto Zen temple with Hōgai Un'kichi as the founding abbot. It was destroyed by fire during the Boshin War and the Nagaoka air raids, but was rebuilt in the postwar period by the 23rd abbot, Daikan Ryōben. The temple also has a history of enshrining 33 statues of Kannon (Avalokiteshvara) discovered during the Manji era.
