In 1189 CE (Bunji 5), Suzuki Shigenori, a retainer of Minamoto no Yoshitsune, invited the kami Komori Myojin from Yoshino and enshrined it, which is considered the origin of the current Kiyosu Shrine. During the Edo period, it was called Komori Daimyojin and received reverence from successive lords of the Kiyosu Domain. On March 14, 1871 (Meiji 4), it was renamed from Komori Daimyojin to Kiyosu Shrine.
