In 1859, upon the opening of Yokohama Port, Iwatsukiya Sakuji invited the deity of Kongo Daikongen from Zentsuji Mountain in Sanuki Province and established worship in Minatozaki-machi. In 1872, the shrine was relocated to Takashima-machi, and in 1882, it moved to its current location in Makin-machi, where it was renamed Konpira Shrine. Although it suffered damage during the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Yokohama Air Raids, the current shrine buildings were rebuilt in 1988.
