It is said that the temple originated when Hakusuke (Hakusuke) enshrined the Eleven-Faced Kannon Bodhisattva from Hatsuse Mountain in Yamato Province, following the divine instruction of the Amida Nyorai at Zenkoji. Around 1290 CE, it was revived by Hojo Sadaie. During the Edo and Meiji periods, structures such as the Koan-do (Childbirth Hall), the Niomon (Two Kings Gate), and the Kaiki-den (Founding Hall) were constructed. Restoration and renovation of the temple complex have continued from the Showa through the Heisei periods.
