Koshouji Main Hall
所沢市山口1410
A temple of the Myoshinji branch of the Rinzai sect, known as Zuifan Mountain. It features a rare architectural style, with its main hall reportedly relocated from the head priest's quarters of the tower temple of Ryōan-ji in Kyoto.
History
Founded in 1281 CE (Kōan 4) by the first abbot, Sekimon, of Kenchō-ji, with Hōjō Tokimune as the founding patron. In 1591 CE (Tenshō 19), the monk Keisō entered the temple and received a Goshuin (a shrine's calligraphic seal stamp) from Tokugawa Ieyasu granting a temple estate of 20 koku. Despite repeated destruction by fire during the Genkō Rebellion and other disasters, the temple has been rebuilt and restored, continuing to the present day.
