History
It was established in the first year of the Kaie era (1386 CE) as the family temple of Chishoji when Murayama Muneshige, a retainer of the Toki clan, became the lord of Anozan Castle. During the Genwa era (1615-1624 CE), Oshima Mitsushige became the re-founding patron, and Aoyan Masayuki was appointed as the re-founding abbot, at which point the temple was renamed Koshukuji and affiliated with the Soto school. It suffered a fire in the first year of the Bunka era (1804 CE) but was subsequently rebuilt.
