This Soto sect temple is said to have been founded in 1327 by Myohou Sotetsu. In 1632, Maeda Toshitsugu made a donation and received a confirmation of his domain. In 1701, through the efforts of Getsukan Gikou and Sakai Genhachi, the temple was rebuilt using timber that had been discarded into the sea.
