History

The shrine's origins are said to date back to the era of Emperor Chūnin, when it was established to enshrine the ancestral deity of land reclamation. During the Heian period, it was listed as a Jinnai shrine under the name Chōsun Shrine. In the first year of Kanin (1017 CE), after presenting pine saplings to the imperial court, it was granted the title 'Nagemura' (Sapling Village) by Emperor Go-Toba, which became the basis for its current name. In the fifth year of Tenbun (1536 CE), it was awarded the rank of Shō-ichii (First Rank) by Emperor Go-Nara and also received donations from Oda Nobunaga.
