History

This shrine is a branch of Kumano Hongu Taisha in Wakayama Prefecture. It was founded in Tenmei 3 (1783 CE) by Ishikawa Hikojiemon, who had settled in the area in Tenmei 2 (1782 CE), inspired by the damage caused by the Tenmei Great Eruption. The shrine buildings were rebuilt in Meiji 28 (1895 CE) and again in Heisei 7 (1995 CE) to form the current structure.
