It is traditionally believed that the ancestor of the shrine's priestly family, who migrated from Shibuya District in Musashi Province prior to the Kamakura period, invited the deity from Usa Hachiman Grand Shrine and merged it with the pre-existing Takiri-no-Miya (Shrine of Takiri) to establish the current shrine. The current main hall was built in 1931 and was damaged by the atomic bomb, as the shrine is located five kilometers from the hypocenter.
