History
The year of founding is unknown. Since ancient times, a sacred rock (Iwakage) has existed on the mountain (now known as Yattoujiki). During the reign of Emperor Koto, it was enshrined as the Yukita Shrine. In 1111 CE (Ten'ei 2), the shrine buildings were relocated. In 1583 CE (Tensho 11), the buildings were reconstructed by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. In 1603 CE (Keicho 8), Ikeda Terumasa enshrined eight deities on either side of Emperor Sujin, and the shrine came to be known as Kyu-hachiman-gu (Nine-Deity Hachiman Shrine).
