History
聖武天皇の勅願により奈良時代の天平年間に建立されたと伝えられる。鎌倉時代に圓海律師により再興され、寛文10年の山田大火の際に移転を命じられ現在地へ移った。明治維新後の廃仏毀釈で衰退したが、大正4年に聖天堂を設けるなどの整備により復興を遂げた。
