History
Its origins trace back to Senpuku-san Honjou-ji, established in 1608 CE (Keichou 13) as the memorial temple for Kato Tadayasu. In 1680 CE (Enpou 8), Nichiryuu of Honjou-ji was installed with the mediation of Hosokawa Tsunatoshi. In 1683 CE (Ten'na 3), the main hall was built, and the temple name was changed to Soukaku-ji. The temple was completely destroyed by fire during the Satsuma Rebellion in 1877 CE (Meiji 10), but the current main hall was rebuilt around 1885 CE (Meiji 18).
