Founded in 1636 CE (Kan'ei 13), it is referred to locally as 'Gosha' (Five Shrines). It enshrines five deities: Matsudaira Nagazane, Isshiki Yoshitomo, Toda Munemitsu, Matsudaira Yasunaga, and Princess Matsuhime. Over time, various local shrines, branch spirits from Kanda Myojin Shrine, and Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine were merged into it. In 1953, the Five Shrines and Wakamiya Hachiman Shrine were officially merged, resulting in the current name, Matsumoto Shrine.
