In 1504 CE (Bunkitsu 4), the main hall, treasure repository, and shrine records were destroyed by fire during the wars between the Ouchi and Aki clans, so the original date of founding is unknown. It was rebuilt in 1510 CE (Ei-shō 7) as the general tutelary deity (sōshishin) for the Nishi-machi and Nishino-mura areas, and was relocated to its current site in 1575 CE (Tenshō 3) by Kobayakawa Takakage.
