History

This ancient shrine was established in 712 CE (Wadō 5) when the provincial governor invited the deity from Daisen Tei Shrine. Later, the deity Ihe was co-enshrined. The lord of Komatsu Domain oversaw the reconstruction of the main hall and repairs to the shrine buildings, and the shrine served as the principal shrine of the domain, where prayers for safe travel were offered during the sankin-kōtai (alternate attendance) journeys. In 1854 CE (Kaei 7), the shrine was relocated to its current site on Mount Funayama. In 1895 CE (Meiji 28), it was designated as a Gōsha (Prefectural Shrine).
