During the reign of Emperor Keitai, the Three Musubi Goddesses were enshrined here, invited from Munakata in Tsukushi Province. Later, deities were re-enshrined from Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima. During the reign of Emperor Monmu, the shrine buildings were newly constructed, and in the 7th year of Keicho (1602 CE), the shrine was moved to its current location. In the 4th year of Meiji (1871 CE), Okuninushi-no-Mikoto and several other deities were jointly enshrined.
