History
Established in 1612 CE (Keichō 17) as a nembutsu (Buddha-name recitation) practice hall founded by the monk Jōjun of Fujiya-yama. In May 1689 CE (Genroku 2), the temple received permission to house a wooden Buddha statue and its official name from the high priest Jakuju of Hongan-ji, and it was officially named Takahara-ji. The main hall and the monks' quarters were completed in 1878 CE (Meiji 11). However, the monks' quarters fell into disrepair during the Heisei era and were subsequently demolished. Currently, a community center is being constructed within the Takahara-ji grounds.
