History
This temple is a successor to the Kokubunji (Provincial Temple) established by imperial decree of Emperor Shomu during the Nara period. It was destroyed by fire during the Battle of Bunbai Kawara in 1343 (Genkō 3). The Yakushi-do (Medicine Hall) was rebuilt in 1335 (Kenmu 2) by Nitta Yoshitsune. The current structures were reconstructed during the Boryaku era (1751–1764).
