Founded in 1556 CE (Koji 2) by the priest Nichiyō of Shōgyōin. The origin traces back to Nichiyō's visit from Shingyōsan Kōenji, where he established the initial halls. The temple suffered fires in 1783 and 1879 but was rebuilt each time to stand as it does today.
