Myohoji Temple - Kanboku Gate
長岡市村田
A head temple (Yushu Jiin) of the Nichiren sect located in Nagaoka City, Niigata Prefecture. The mountain name is Hōōzan. Within the precincts stands the Hōondō Hall, which enshrines Kazama Nobuaki, the founding patron.
History
In 1306 CE (Tokuchi 1), Nichishō founded Myōhōji Temple on Mount Keiō in Minami-ku, Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture. In 1323 CE (Gentō 3), following Nichishō's final instructions, the temple was relocated to the current Murata site to serve as a base for evangelism in northern Echigo. In 1868 CE (Meiji 1), many of the halls were destroyed by fire during the Boshin War, but reconstruction efforts have continued since then.
