Myoko-ji Golden Hall
一宮市大和町妙興寺 境内
A major temple of the Rinzai Myoshinji school located in Ichinomiya City, Aichi Prefecture. It is also known as the place where Ueno Tadaaki, the founder of the Shinmei-ryu martial arts style, trained.
History
Founded in 1348 by Messo Shuko, the second son of Nakajima Kuranosuke, as an act of gratitude to his parents. Nanpo Shomo was invited as the founding abbot. Later, the temple received its name from Ashikaga Yoshimasa and became an imperial prayer temple under Emperor Go-Kogon. Although it declined during the Sengoku period, it was revived through donations from Toyotomi Hideyori and Hideyoshi. Today, it stands as one of the most prominent Zen temples in the Owari region.
