Nagara Shrine
館林市代官町11−38
This local tutelary deity (Ujigami) is regarded as the Grand Guardian of Karasuyama. Its former shrine rank was a Gōsha (Village Shrine), and it is a shrine that receives offerings of food and silk from the Imperial Household.
History
The main enshrined deity is Fujiwara Nagara, who once ruled this land as the governor of the ancient Uzen Province and was later enshrined as a subsidiary shrine of Kasuga Taisha (Kasuga Grand Shrine) after his death. The founding date is unknown, but it is said that during the era when the Akai clan served as the lords of Karasuyama, the deity was invited from Setogai Village and enshrined within the grounds of Tenpukuji Temple. In 1720 CE (Kyōhō 5), the shrine was granted the rank of Shōichi-i (First Rank). In 1873 CE (Meiji 6), it was designated as a Gōsha (Village Shrine).
